"Books are a big part of both of our
lives. It’s our favourite hobby; the books we’ve read are countless and that
made it really hard for us to choose one to present today. So we chose
something we thought you would like and feel interested on.
Divergent was
the book we chose. It was written by Veronica Roth, as the first book of the Divergent Series. The story happens in a
futuristic Chicago, which is closed by walls; supposedly, the world outside
doesn’t exist and everything there is dead. The society in there is divided in
5 factions (groups):
Amity, where
people are calm, they value peace and harmony above all else. They are farmers
and they feed the whole city with their products. Amity members are happy
people, willing to serve.
Dauntless,
where people are brave and fearless, they are seen as the strong soldiers of
the factions. They wish to become courageous and indestructible. Their bodies
are covered in tattoos and piercings and their duty is to protect the city.
Candors
value honesty above all else. They are very truthful, sometimes to the point of
hurting people without meaning to. their
function in the city is making justice. Although Candor values honesty the
most, they also seek to develop impartiality.
Erudites,
where people are highly intelligent; they are responsible for medicine, economy
and the development of technology. Although the Erudites are very smart, they
are known to be extremely vain.
At last, but not least, there’s Abnegation, where people are simply
selfless, they value the needs of others above the needs of themselves; their
duty is to govern the city, because, being selfless, they are the ones who will
think about the “greater good” of the population.
There is, in fact, a place for
people that don’t belong anywhere: those people are called Factionless and they live in the streets and are helped by
Abnegation. They are seen as inferiors, but people don’t know how important
some of them are...
...
Divergent, Insurgent and Allegiant all have movies, but you should read the books first,
which doesn’t happen very often these days because people rather watch the
movies since it’s easier."
